WHAT IS THE MITZVAH TECHNIQUE?
The Mitzvah Technique is used both for remedial and preventative care. People pursue the Mitzvah Technique for a variety of reasons; postural problems, neck, back, joint and spinal problems (scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis), auto accident and other injuries, headaches and tension/stress.
The Mitzvah Technique corrects postural problems which are frequently the result of habitual body misuse. Slouching, sitting at computers, sedentary lifestyles, repetitive activities, trauma and soft and poorly designed furniture all interfere with the healthy postural functioning . Most of us slouch to some degree whether we are aware of slouching or not. Slouching is a major cause of interference of the dynamic upward rippling motion of the Mitzvah Principle and its mechanism. The slouching pattern blocks and holds down the upward motion of the pelvis, spine and head. Interference deepens as the head and neck poke forward, chest squeezes inward, upper back hunches, spine twists downward and the pelvis tucks forward. Many problems can develop from the slouching pattern including; tension and stress build-ups, headaches, migraines, neck, shoulder, back, hip, leg and ankle pain, pinched nerves, temporal mandibular joint pain, malcordination ,sleep disorders, emotional, respiratory and circulatory problems . These problems often fail to respond to conventional treatment, remedial exercises and restraints. (see research)
The Mitzvah Technique as developed by M. Cohen-Nehemia re-educates postural body usage. It is a gentle non invasive yet persuasive hands on method. Healthy postural usage and good body mechanics are developed as we re-establish the upward rippling motion of the pelvis, the spine and the head as we sit, stand and walk . The Mitzvah Technique's approach to body re-education teaches you how to independently maintain healthy postural habits through four basic areas of development including; physical changes, knowledge, awareness, and application. (see Mitzvah Technique Lesson)
Postural improvement as a result of the Mitzvah Technique promotes the release of tension and stress, alleviates pain and traumas, improves body mechanics, mobility, body performance, breathing, circulation, co-ordination, concentration, breathing quality, voice and general health. The Mitzvah Technique is suitable for all ages, benefiting everyone from the most sedentary to the most active.
For over twenty five years a number of
doctors have advocated The Mitzvah Technique for promoting better
health . They recommend it as invaluable knowledge to be included
in training programs of medical schools, chiropractic colleges,
and schools of preventative medicine.
